J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: J36 Sale of Breeding Sheep, Prime Hoggs & Cull Sheep, Tuesday 1st April 2025

PRIME HOGGS

Smorgasbord of Prime Hoggs

A diverse show of sheep were on offer today at J36 ranging from 17 to 73kg. Along side the usual abundance of breeds including Shetlands, Dorsets and many Herdwicks & Swales. Varity however is the spice of life and for many of the sheep sold today a very tasty trade was met. 40-45kg sheep regularly sold between £150 and £160. 47kg hoggs hit £181 from AT Burrow & Son for a Beltex. The same home got £161 for 44s. Lighter 37kg Beltex from DJ Clarke made £143. The same home then had a pen of 5 32kp hoggs hit £122 or 383.1ppk. Messrs Little of Helm Croft also got £161 for 43kg Texels which proved around the ideal weight of the day. Heavy hoggs still not quite as desirable for buyers currently however handy weights were fought for hard from the offset. The next slae of Prime Sheep is in a weeks time on the 8th April.
